Structure and syllabus: A study route aligned with your ambitions
The CGMA Finance Leadership Program provides all the necessary skills to prepare for the case study exams to earn your CGMA.
Foundational Level: a condensed introduction to the concepts of business and finance.
Start by building the foundations that every finance career is built on. You'll explore how businesses actually function, get to grips with financial accounting and how financial statements come together, and discover how management accounting drives real business decisions. Complete this stage and you'll earn the Business and Finance Essentials Skills Certificate — a recognised credential that marks your first milestone on the path to CGMA.
The Operational Level is where your finance knowledge starts to take real shape. You'll explore how the finance function is evolving in a digital world, learn how to use data and analytics to support smarter decisions, and get hands-on with budgeting, cost accounting, and financial reporting. Along the way you'll earn three certificates that mark your progress: the Digital Finance Skills Certificate, the Budget and Cost Analysis Skills Certificate, and the Finance Reporting Skills Certificate. Complete the full level — including the Operational Case Study — and you'll be awarded the Diploma in Management Accounting, a standalone qualification that recognised your mastery of the essentials of modern finance.
The Management Level is where you shift from understanding finance to leading with it. You'll develop the people skills and project management tools to drive change within teams, build advanced financial planning and analysis capabilities to sharpen competitive strategy, and master complex financial reporting to the standard of international accounting frameworks. Three certificates mark your progress: the Team Performance Management Skills Certificate, the Financial Planning and Analysis Skills Certificate, and the Financial Statement Analysis Skills Certificate. Complete the full level — including the Management Case Study — and you'll earn the Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting, a powerful credential that signals you're ready to operate at a senior finance level.
The Strategic Level is the final chapter — and the most ambitious. You'll learn to formulate and present strategy at the highest level, lead enterprise-wide digital transformation, manage complex risk across the entire organisation, and make the kind of capital and financing decisions that shape a company's future. Three final certificates mark your journey: the Strategy Management Skills Certificate, the Enterprise Risk Management Skills Certificate, and the Corporate Finance Strategy Skills Certificate. Complete the Strategic Level, pass the Strategic Case Study, and verify three or more years of relevant work experience — and you'll earn the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation. The letters after your name. The career you've been building toward. You're there.
Assessments and case studies:
- Progress is measured through continuous online assessments. Each level culminates in a three-hour case study exam, the same case study as those learning through the Self-Tailored Learning Pathway
- The Strategic Level Case Study Exam is the final exam. Upon passing, and coupled with the successful submission of practical experience requirements (PER), you will be awarded the CIMA membership.
